MISSION & VISSION
MHIS BRIEF
Megha Health Insurance Scheme was launched in 2012. The Government of Meghalaya via the State Nodal Agency began the implementation of MHIS in convergence with the Rashtriya Swasthiya Bima Yojana (RSBY) in 2013. The insurance cover was increased to 1.6 lakhs for all citizens of the state (excluding state and central government employees). Since the cover under RSBY for the insured beneficiaries was restricted only to secondary care and surgical packages, the universal scheme introduced critical care, oncology, and other essential tertiary packages.

Subsequently, the insurance cover has increased over the years - to 2.0 Lakhs in MHIS 11, 2.8 Lakhs in MHIS Ill (plus 30,000 senior citizen cover for enrolled senior citizens), and 5 Lakhs in MHIS IV and now to 5.3 Lakhs in MHIS V. The growth is not just in the insurance cover but also in the expansion of the scheme's scope over the years, which has been possible due to continued interventions made by the Government to address implementation challenges. MHIS is now being implemented with Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana since the fourth phase (2019) introducing several operational changes which have improved the service delivery of the scheme in the past few years.

Reliance General Insurance Company Limited is the current Insurance Company identified for implementing the scheme in Meghalaya for MHIS 6 selected through a rigorous and competitive bidding process.

SOME OF THE MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS IN MHIS 6 & PMJAY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1. An additional ₹30,000 insurance coverage has been added to the ₹5,00,000 (secondary and tertiary care) insurance cover which includes OPD coverage for maternity benefits, child care benefits, cardiac and diabetes preventive care benefits, and OPD diagnostic and follow-up-care benefit.
2. Premium Per Household is ₹2,576/- (Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred Seventy-Six only)
3. Target Households: -
a) Total number of households targeted – 6,92,979
b) Total number of households targeted under PMJAY – 3,85,708
c) Total number of households targeted under MHIS – 3,07,271
4. There is No Breakup in Coverage.
5. The number of Health Benefits Packages is 2253 packages and 2665 procedures which include OPD/Day-care, OPD diagnostics, medical treatments, surgical procedures, and high-end drug packages.
6. Auto Empanelment for already empanelled Hospitals in Meghalaya.
7. The District Kiosks which are set up in all 11 districts will act as Moveable Block Kiosks as and when directed by the SNA-MHIS.
