MHIS in convergence with AB-PMJAY

Megha Health Insurance Scheme was launched in 2012. The Government of Meghalaya via the State Nodal Agency began the implementation of MHIS in convergence with the Rashtriya Swasthiya Bima Yojana (RSBY) in 2013. The insurance cover was increased to ₹ 1.6 lakhs for all citizens of the state (excluding state and central government employees). Since the cover under RSBY for the insured beneficiaries was restricted only to secondary care and surgical packages, the universal scheme introduced critical care, oncology, and other essential tertiary care packages.

Subsequently, the insurance cover has increased over the years – to ₹ 2.0 Lakhs in MHIS II, 2.8 Lakhs in MHIS III (plus ₹ 30,000 senior citizen cover for enrolled senior citizens), and ₹ 5 Lakhs in MHIS IV and now to ₹ 5.3 Lakhs in MHIS V. The growth is not just in the insurance cover but also in the expansion of the scheme’s scope over the years, which has been possible due to continued interventions made by the Government to address implementation challenges. MHIS is now being implemented with Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana since the fourth phase (2019) introducing several operational changes which have improved the service delivery of the scheme in the past few years.

RELIANCE GENERAL INSURANCE COMPANY LIMITED is the current Insurance Company identified for implementing the scheme in Meghalaya for MHIS 6 selected through a rigorous and competitive bidding process.

CEO's Message

Shri. Ramkumar S (IAS)

CEO, MHIS
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Megha Health Insurance Scheme website. I hope this portal creates an opportunity for all our valued visitors to learn about the scheme, our implementation, our performances and above all the services provided under the scheme.
MHIS was one of the first Universal Health Insurance Schemes that was started in India with an intention of tackling the out-of-pocket expenditure resulting from health issues suffered by the people. Simultaneously, the scheme intended to improve the reach of quality health care to the beneficiaries by addressing preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative healthcare.

The scheme functions and is a success only if there is interaction, accessibility and shared practises with all stakeholders. So, if on one hand there have been challenges and yet on the other hand success stories are there for the world to see. Each year the scheme is committed towards making improvements in the scopes and services provided; while aiming at long term sustainability.

This website is part of our commitment to the beneficiaries, stakeholders and the people of Meghalaya. It will be a platform for all to view the performances, schedules, reports as well as a platform for lodging complaints. It will be a transparent and interactive portal detailing all developments and will remain the ideal source for information regarding MHIS.
